IPCC

The latest IPCC report says that we need to drastically change our lifestyles in order to slow climate change. We need to take this seriously now – we in the Western countries caused this but others will suffer most.

What you can do that really makes a change:

  • STOP FLYING
This is the single biggest emitter of greenhouse gas emissions and we need to start staying on the ground. Maybe there will be technical solutions in the future, but we’re not there yet. So stop flying, it is the most effective thing you can do for the environment as an individual. (Source)
  • DO NOT GET ANY CHILDREN
This applies to Westerners. Sadly but true, another child with a Western lifestyle will emit tons of CO2 during their life. (Source)
  • BECOME VEGAN
Meat and dairy production is responsible for 18% of global CO2 emissions. It is an extremely inefficient way of producing food as 90% of the energy from the plans the animals ate is being lost in the process. It is better we eat the plans directly so that less space is needed for food production, and less people will suffer from famine. (Source)
  • STOP USING CARS
Cars emit CO2 and most people can survive without a car. No, not even an electric car is OK – tons of CO2 was emitted just to create the battery the electric car is running on. We need to shift entirely from car transport to other types of transports. (Source)
  • VOTE GREEN
And do not get tricked by green washing. In Sweden, Vänsterpartiet is the party with best environmental politics according to most of the measurements by environmental NGO:s. (source)
  • ENGAGE YOURSELF
Choose an NGO you like and start engage, for example Friends of the Earth or Naturskyddsföreningen, start a campaign to make your school/work become fossil free, gather a demonstration to shed light on the problems and what to do about them, protest, occypy, etc.
  • CHANGE BANK
Most of the banks use your money to invest in fossil fuels. Just having money on a bank account emits CO2 – this is one of many reasons why rich people emit more CO2 than working class/poor people. Make a statement and a real change, and change to a bank that does not invest in fossil fuels (for Sweden: Ekobanken or Jakbanken). (source)
  • EDUCATE YOURSELF
Education is key. Many don’t know how serious it is, and how important it is to change our lifestyles. Knowledge is important to know what to do and how to do it, in order to slow climate change.
  • DEMAND CHANGE
In the end of the day, nothing will change if it is only the little human who change their lifestyle. Politicians need to take responsibility. Demand that they do! Sign petitions, strike, collect names, write to your local politicians.
  • STOP SUPPORTING COMPANIES BY BUYING THEIR STUFF.
Capitalism fuels climate change. That’s a fact. We need to stop feeding this unsustainable system with our money, and stop buy new products. Most of the stuff you need you can get second hand, and really, do you actually need it? (source, source)
  • BE CRITICAL, DEMAND SYSTEM CHANGE
This system is wrong, obviously. A system where you can choose to live unsustainably is not a good system. We must demand another system where it is not an option to live unsustainably. Be critical. Always.

  1. Hej,
Läste när det var på FB.
Men jag har inga vettiga kommentarer.
